This is a depiction of the destruction of a planet named Cyrene, from the Warhammer 40,000 universe-- specifically from the lore of the Dawn of War series of games. More information can be found here: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Gabriel_Angelos
This image was rendered in Bryce 6. The ship was not modeled by me, marking a departure in most of my other images from my usual procedure of making all my own models. The problem with making my own models is that while I get a large amount of satisfaction from it, I usually end up spending huge amounts of time modeling the components. This allowed me to put together the image much faster and still have it look pretty good.
